During the “Towards a Space-Powered Economy” conference organized by ESA in Harwell, Ciro Lanzetta , CEO of i-EM, presented the OCTAGON project. The project was recognized as the best in the category of Mobility, Smart Cities, and Energy, securing third place at this prestigious event, which brought together numerous companies showcasing innovative ideas and solutions based on the potential of space. The event aimed to highlight how space can transform businesses, economies, and communities, promoting cutting-edge projects that tackle global challenges and foster sustainable development.
OCTAGON is a suite of intelligent tools and services available in Cloud in the form of SaaS, to facilitate the decision-making process and the management of the energy assests, where “intelligent” means optimal design, dimensioning and management of multiple scenario/sites (“behind” and “beyond” the meter) and easy to use for all players in the energy system, decision makers and users. Designed to provide connected green energy solutions by integrating real-time data, advanced simulations, and management tools for smart grid components
By leveraging space-based technologies, such as satellite data and IoT systems, OCTAGON optimizes the performance of renewable energy sources, improves energy distribution efficiency, and reduces overall environmental impact. The project focuses on enabling the seamless integration of renewable energy into smart grids, ensuring stability and reliability in energy grid while supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy model.
This initiative demonstrates the practical application of space technologies in addressing global challenges, showcasing how satellite data can enhance the monitoring and management of energy systems.
